George Ciccariello-Maher, an associate professor at Philadelphia’s Drexel University, provoked the wrath of the internet’s worst people on Christmas Eve when he tweeted, “All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. In a follow-up tweet, he added, “To clarify: when the whites were massacred during the Haitian revolution, that was a very good thing indeed.” (The tweets are no longer available online, as Ciccariello-Maher has since made his Twitter account private.) In context, it seems clear that he was tweaking white supremacists for their repurposing of the term white genocide, which is disingenuously invoked nowadays to pretend that uncontroversial things like interracial dating are as threatening as the slaughter that took place in Haiti in 1804. But Ciccariello-Maher’s tweets were as good a reason for a witch hunt as any, and what better time to hunt witches than Christmas?

Just as I said in another thread to another poster, let just change "one" single word in the sentence and see if it would be ok.... Let change it to....“All I Want for Christmas is Black Genocide".

Anyone with a brain would say that would be unacceptable. Then it would be unacceptable to use against white or brown or yellow or any race. Racist words against one group is wrong, then it is wrong to use against any other group too. No exception. Period.

Not that I know of. I was talking about another thread with similar theme. Another poster said in that thread that "white folks are the most murderous kind" and I said let replace the word "white" with "black" and see if that would be acceptable and of course, he ran away with tails between legs. Racist words against one group is as bad as it is used against any other group.

Except that there's no such thing as white genocide, despite the anxiety of the white supremacists. That's the joke. He mocking them. Anyone that's not a coddled child would get it.

That doesn't make any sense. 'White genocide' is a specific term used by white supremacists to describe immigration and demographic trends. What he was saying there was that all he wanted for christmas was for those things to continue. He was mocking THEIR use of that term, not saying that he wanted an actual genocide. Since there is no equivalent 'black genocide' term you can't say the same thing.

The professor made a snarky tweet that unscrupulous people could use to their advantage. It might have been a stupid move tactically, but he should absolutely not be fired.

Meh, he really should at least be suspended or reprimanded. I personally would probably fire him for the tweet just because it shows immaturity and a mocking snarling tone that overall I wouldn't want in the university.

Guys like this are why academia is so bad now.

It's becoming increasingly hard to square the conservative argument that the PC movement is out of control with their also wanting to fire professors for being mean.

As best as I can tell the argument is actually 'professors keep saying things I disagree with'.

My question would be if you would be able to attain the intellectual standing to have a position in that university to be in a position to act on that opinion, or even have it if you did.

No, explaining it to you multiple times was an exercise in futility not unlike that experienced by every teacher you've ever had. Evidently all you got out of it was to keep lying about how tough you are like some 5 year old despite cowering in the corner as of late in response to anything I say--as 5 year old minds should.

The alt right uses the term "white genocide" in reference to interracial marriage. I can't imagine why they would object to interracial marriage. It makes no sense, it is better for the gene pool and objectively better fitted humans would be the result.
