Do we have any Mac fans here?

Just want to see how biased this forums really is. Does anyone have a Mac? How many use it for their main computer?

Of course, my rig is in my sig...

Truly, these holy wars against the Mac are really bad. Most people have never even paused to use one (save for the local Compusa), and its judged the worst machine ever? I used to be like this, until I used a 8500/100 for photoshop one summer, I was surprised. Now I can never go back.

For games, they suck since they rarely use the video card, instead it uses the processor. For video and imaging editing, they r0xors. Where I work, most of the computers there are Macs, but they rarely have any problems. We have started to get a few PCs (ever since I started working there:)) My main computer is a PC, but I hope to get a powerbook G4 someday (due to their battery life compared to PC lappys)

Well, there's biasdness like that on a lot of forums. These forums are populated by PC users, so there will be more biasd comments against Macs here. I'm sure there is a lot of biasd comments against Windows on the Slashdot forums. The people on the Maccentral forums are pretty biased against PCs too. Hell, there's even fierce AMD vs Intel rivalries right here on Anandtech as well.

edit: edited for those who have their minds in the gutter

When I get on these forums... people ask me "Why do you defend Apple so much? why? You some kind of Mac junkie?" I don't say a damn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand it's about the forum users next to you. That's it. That's all it is.

But yeah, Macs are sweet. I remember making the Kaleidescope schemes with my 100 MHz 603e Performa w/ OS 8.5.

I have a tibook. I love it. Jaguar rocks. I just started playing with sherlock tonight.. You pc dudes are missing out on this program. Ichat blows, but it is very immature as a product. Overall, this is a huge improvement.

Utterman: Try one that is running 10.2. Jaguar has solved many problems with what you mentioned.

I also have an athlon computer which i like alot.

Apple gets my vote as i am out of the tinkering phase and just need something that works. The switch ads are gay, except the ellen feiss and will ferrell ad.

Hehe, line reminds me of Blackhawk Down when the Delta guy said in the end ;)

Yes - I like Macs, got'em at work - just don't really use them.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a 'fan', since I don't (and never have) owned anything made by Apple before. However, i highly respect them, and I actually think that they should be commended. Apple is the only alternate computer company to survive the computer wars. Atari, Amiga, Commodore, Tandy, etc all died in the late 80's and the early 90's. Apple is the only company that survived, and they are actually doing pretty well for themselves, especially when you consider their main competitor is the PC. And just for that alone, I think they should be praised. Who cares what they charge? They aren't forcing you to buy anything.

And you have to admit, their computers do look kickass :)

I'm not a Mac owner, but I am a Mac user. I do Sys Admin work as an intern in an almost all Mac shop(we have a few PCs for things that there isn't Mac software for, and VirtualPC isn't an option), so I work with the machines every day. Now, I don't get paid enough to actually afford my own Mac, but as a "take home prize" I get a PB G3 400mhz(Pizmo) to work from home, along with the DP 533 I use at work; both run Jaguar. I also "have" an Xserve, but for obvious reasons, it's locked in to a rack at work.;)

I own a few Macs (Mac Plus, Mac Performa 630CD and original iMac) all of them are collecting dust in the closet.

I still enjoy using Macs but PCs own them when it comes to cost/performance unless of course you're using PhotoShop.

Same here...I used them a great deal for Engineering work but I didn't find them that capable in our programs...we were frequented by crashes and errors..

If I had the money it wouldn't be bad to mess with

"Who cares what they charge?"

That would be ME! I'm still not understanding spending gobs of extra money for a "look & feel". Damn! Am I the only one who thinks that sounds REALLY ghey!

I don't own a mac and I haven't really worked with one very much, but I am considering getting one in a year or two. I would like to get a power book, but the tower machines are very nice too. So if I can afford one in a couple years I will get one. Hopefully by then there will be even more open source software for it.

I like macs, just not those crazy mac zealots. (not saying ALL mac owners are zealots, but some are really obnoxious).

I just bought the 17" LCD iMac to throw in my living room as a Home Theater hub... I was at the Apple Store at Valley Fair mall (San Jose, Calif), and the place was packed. People were buying stuff, too..

And yes, the ads are really, really stupid. The OS, however, is nice.
