Do Viper alarm systems live up to their hype?

I am thinking of getting a built-in GPS/multimedia unit for my truck.
While I was looking around online I kept seeing ads for Viper car alarms. Apparently there is one with a remote entry and ignition, remote alarm/alert with a range of one mile, and also supposedly a remote engine kill. It goes for about 400 bucks.

You might get more action if you move this to "The Garage" section. Viper are fine, but I think Compustar are just as good with a lower price point.
