The fantasy and supernatural film genres are not synonymous with the horror genre, they are more of thriller. I don't think most monster movies were ever considered horror thought some no doubt have called them such. A vampire or zombie film could be made to be horror if it's filmed and scripted right. Resident Evil games had some horror moments, I remember the first one at the beginning where that zombie turns to look at you..good horror moment right there in it's time. But you can make anything scary, a dog, a doll or you can make them into action or comedy just as well.

The original Night of the living dead was never horror it was romantic comedy!

Bela Lugosi was a famous comedy actor !

Boris Karloff was famous for being a Shakespearean actor in Frankenstein!

Jesus WTF Lay off the cough syrup.

Vampires, Zombies and Frankenstein monsters are the backbone of horror. You don't consider them to be Horror?! You don't think these were ever considered Horror?

As Braznor says for 80 plus years this type of movie was the definition of horror. It's only in recent times that they have been usurped by the action crowd as represented by that Resident Evil crap.

It depends on the script. Let the Right One In is horror (at least the original version) while the Underworld series is action.

If there are machine guns and explosions then it's probably action. See: Blade series.

If ordinary people are being terrorized by a shadowy monster then it's more likely to be horror.

Best Zombie show ever ... It's not Horror but Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fiction and a Crime Drama all rolled up into one.
Seriously. The lead male and female actors are really good.

30 Days of Night has some gory scenes of course, but I don't think it's in the horror category. A very well done vampire action thriller imo.
