of course they do!. not 100% sure on stoping power, btu I would bet a 7.62 from a sks would be minimum.
 
Yes. The standard vest can stop small arms fire, but not high-powered rounds. They can be augmented with extra armor plates to stop higher powered rounds.
 
The vest itself is designed to stop pistol ammo/shrapnel, while the trauma plates placed inside the vest can stop up to a 7.62.

The iraqi's have convenient white cloths in their pocket to stop all kinds of weapons.
