Do upconverting DVD players make a diff?

I remember when they first came out, people were skeptical...

Whats the concensus now?
 
I don't think so.

Upconverting the video on the DVD that you put in the DVD player, however, defintiely helps scale it better to the dimensions of your TV.

It doesn't make it look "better" than the source, but it defintiely makes it look "better" for your own TV.

With built in processors like foruja they pull it off for you
 
As Goosemaster said, depends on the quality of the scaling of the processor built in to your display.
