Do undergraduate advisors have the power to stop you from taking a certain # of courses???

Here's the deal. I'm sick and tired of school. Seriously. I feel that if I don't finish up soon, I'll end up giving out. My projected graduation date is this fall. After this semester I'll have 5 math classes left. Rather than spreading it through 2 more semesters, I decided I rather quit my job and devote the entire next semester to finishing up this last 5 classes and graduating. So now I have to go to the math department to file a program card and graduation.

The problem is I know my undergraduate advisor doesn't believe taking 3-4 math classes in one semester is a smart idea, let alone 5. Does he have the power to say "I won't allow you to take 5 math class next semester because you're setting yourself up to fail, so I'm not approving your program card."

My Counsler did. not an advisor, a counsler. They flat out refused to let me take the amount of hours I wanted.

I mean even if I'm setting myself up to fail, isn't it my problem? They should be the "advisor" not the "parent" right? Worst comes to worst, I'll fail one class and retake it next spring.

What 5 classes are they? I don't see how you can take 5 math classes in one semester even if you wanted to.

i don't know if the advisor has the power but it could be denied by the department. see if the petition/program card goes through someone higher up that could deny it.

Here you don't even meet the advisor until you want to, you just pick whatever classes you want. So here, no, but there I have no idea

Sephy, I can pick whatever classes I want but when you file for graduation, you have to submit a program card charting what you plan to take and it has to be approved by the department.

I think it depends on the school and the advisor. I've never known an advisor to be anal like that. From experience and from friends with the same major, advisors either suck(not helpful at all) or they're cool(extremely helpful but wont stand in your way).

Since it is your last semester I think you'll be able to get away with it. Do you have to pay extra money since its five classes which would exceed the number of credits you're allowed to take in one semester?
I've had a past roommate who had to take only two classes his last semester and still be counted as a full time student. He had to get a waiver form and special consent.
