Do Ubiquity Unifi Systems require a dedicated box?

After reading through many threads on Ubqiuity's gear here, do you actually have to keep a dedicated box running to manage these AP's? Or is it just an initial setup?

I'm looking specifically at the Ubiquiti UniFi AP Enterprise WiFi Systems.

Only need a dedicated box if you want to take advantage of the captive portal/guess access that they offer. If you just want it to act as a 'dumb' AP, it will do that without a dedicated machine. You just have to configure it first with their software and then your done!

You can't configure the APs without their software. The software does not, however, have to be running in order for the APs to accept connections.

Just an added item as well - it's just a software program you install, so it can be running on any PC really. It doesn't have to be a dedicated system. But they do periodically call home for updates and such, so if you do make changes, the software does have to be running for the AP's to update. Nice system really. Fully managed without the huge price tag of a wireless controller.

Yup. Another thought is if you do want it running all the time and have some VM knowledge, you could do that. A VM would be perfect for this...
