No, you would have to volnteer for an airborn unit. You might have to jump out of a helo though. I joined the Navy, as I did not feel comfortable getting shot at.

Oh I forgot to mention, in the obstacle courses there's a couple of really tall wooden structures that you have to climb. It'll make you $hit bricks. Trust me. It took me 5 mins. to do both.

I would think parachuting out of a plane is the absolute easiest thing you'd do in the Army, even if you're scared of heights.

You dont HAVE too, but you dont wanna be labeled a wussy. ;)

I'm not scared of heights, I am scared of falling :)

Its not the fall that kills you, its the sudden stop.

bah...you should ask "Do you get to jump out of planes?" Everyone wants the airborne slots and few get them. Only 7% of all Army people are jump qualified.

I leave for airborne school on the 17th...WHOOO!

You don't have to go airbone to jump.
I was stationed at Fort Bragg and there I joined the Green Beret Parachute Activity Club. I only have to paid $12 per jump, the parachute and equipment was like $25 for the whole weekend.
I guess the should have clubs like that at other ARMY posts.
The experience was good because i got some Golden Knights, jumpmaster me sometimes.

Sounds like it could be fun, but I know I'd be scared as !@#$ 5 minutes before I have to make the jump.

Nope. It's totally optional, but of course it depends on the unit you get assigned to and your MOS.

PM me Jimbo, I've seen the Army from many different sides, I can give you the good and bad, and believe me I've experienced both. However, I'd still do it again, EXCEPT I would have done it before college instead of enlisting after college. If I would have done that, I would have retired last year. As it stands, I got out after 14 years. Family obligations, you know. I was missing too much and I really wanted to be there for my family, not off on a mission or in the field training, sneaking back to the rear to find a pay phone to call home every night.

Do it again in a heartbeat. Only I wouldn't have wasted my first year in an Admin MOS as a unit clerk. I took that initially because of the bonus and I thought it would be easier. In reality, it was very, very boring. Once I got into a combat arms MOS I was gung ho and very strack! (you'll find out what strack is)
