Yeah, many people believe in the freedom of communication and think that encryption is ""evil"" so they keep it Off.;)

Or, could be that they do not know better, or have nothing to hide, or do not care.

Technically it's a friend's AP and not mine, but a few months ago we did turn on WEP because someone was crushing his Internet connection.

no, but I use MAC filters to limit access, and limit DHCP to the number of computers that I have.

lmao evil...

freedom of communication? i dont get it.. by allowing other ppl to use their internet?

even if u have nothing to hide, if a hacker were to do some hacking with ur connection, u get in trouble...

and, it only takes a few keystrokes to spell "you" and "your", plus you come across better when you do that.

quite right but i do not put myself in any danger by minimizing my keyboard's radiation (something ironic in this statement?)...

Maybe you should fix the beginning of your sentances then. Eat my lack of capitalization.

i encrypt but i wish i didnt have to, i would rather live in a world where internet connections are free to use wherever i go.

I work in an isolation cage for 8+ hours a day. 3 100mw AP's (often turned down to 5 or 20 mw) and 2-5 20-40 mw client radios. If you leave the door shut for more then about 4 hours, you start to get a killer headache.

Encryption is on and running EAP-FAST. I voted using WPA since that is underlying key management.

WEP cause I still have a couple of old USB "B" adaptors in use with my WTR54G.

I used to be lazy an only use WEP-128 (didn't look into WPA when it came out; didn't want to bother learning about it or updating drivers, etc.). Since then I've found out how easy it is to crack WEP, and made a point of changing the numerous wireless routers that I've recommended and configured to enable WAP or even just turn the radio off if it's not being used.

And while I was at one of these locations, I saw that somebody had hacked into and logged on despite WEP-128. This was an older D-Link router, which didn't even have the ability to turn off the wireless radio originally. Of course, I immediately changed the SSID and encryption key, and thereafter downloaded and installed firmware that allowed me to disable the wireless radio altogether.

Based on that experience, WEP-128 is dead for me; if that site needs wireless again, that router will have to be replaced with at least a WPA-capable one.

It worked with my older brother's laptop and the Linksys router claimed that WPA2 (or whatever I had it configured as first) was backwards compatible with WPA, but it wasn't so I'll just stick with the WPA until my Dad's company issues him a new work computer.

Yeah. I know it's a WPA, but I forget which one specifically. I don't care much. I might change it to WEP so I can get my Zaurus online easier.

I use wep as well with MAC filtering only because my T43 refuses to work with WPA or WPA2.
