* Do u backup your data ? I need advice on backup solution ...

I am looking for a simple paritial backup solution for a my small LAN with 3 pc.

I am thinking of daily cross-backup of 1 pc to another one on the LAN, and using cdrw for archive weekly.

(would like to have the process automated instead of copy and paste file from 1 pc to another)

I am NOT looking for any RAID or tape solution or any cloning solution (norton ghost)

Pls advice, thanks in advance.

btw,

1. What is the difference between differential and incremental backup ?

2. What is the pros and cons of using uncompressed vs compressed backup ?

Microsoft Backup that is included with Windows will just about do it all and will back up to and read from CD-RW. MS Backup is highly overlooked and underappreciated, considering that it works and its free.

I have a 3-station LAN and each computer has a duplicate HDD. I clone them every week. That makes for a very quick and easy total backup with no restore function. Just change drives in the event of a malfunction. Then - reclone the good drive to the bad drive and all is cool.

Have you considered setting up a scheduled task to run the copy to another machine? Just write a simple batch file that will do the copy, and then have it kick off when you're least likely to be on, 3 a.m. for example.
