Do those pills that help you memorize things actually work?

If so, what are they? Side effects? Anyone seen results? Do you think it could just be a mental thing? There is a ton of memorization in a couple of my college courses and I've never had that great of a memory so I'd figure I'd ask. Thanks for reading as always.

Lots of logical feedback given so far, keep up the good work. AT Humor..always a plus.

On a more serious note, has anyone actually taken something like these. Do they even exist?

i've been trying ginkgo pills the past couple of quarters whenever i need to study for a midterm and just before i take a test. i've done well on them but it could just be a placebo effect.

and i do hear ritalin is all the rage with the smart kids.

Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) lyrics

Some will learn, many do
Cover up or spread it out
Turn around, had enough
Pick and choose or pass it on
Buying in, heading for
Suffer now or suffer then
It's bad enough
I want the fear, need the fear

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause he's alone (and he has become)
He's alone (and he has become...)

[Chorus]
Well if they're making it
And they're pushing it
And they're leading us along
The hassle of all the screaming fits
The panic makes remorse

After all, whats the point
Course levatation is possible
If you're a fly, achieved and gone
There's time for this and so much more
It's typical, create a world
A special place of my designs
To never cope or never care, just use the key

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause he's alone (and he has become)
He's alone (and he has become...)

[Chorus]
Well if they're making it
And they're pushing it
And they're leading us along
The hassle of all the screaming fits
The panic makes remorse

Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave

[Chorus]
Well if they're making it
And they're pushing it
And they're leading us along
The hassle of all the screaming fits
The panic held before

[Chorus]
Well if they're making it
And they're pushing it
And they're leading us along
Like a cancer caused all the screaming fits
The panic makes remorse

"Natural health care"... ugh.

I know people who have tried crap like this. It never works.

Best way to improve memory = plenty of regular sleep & good diet & exercise

You know, all that stuff you're supposed to be doing anyway.

i'm assuming you're talking about adderall and ritalin. they don't help memory, they help with concentration. i was reading one news article where they intereviewed a college student who used it to help them in reading crime and punishment and write a 15 page paper on it. In 30 hours straight.

Remember, those drugs don't help with memory. It helps with concentration and focus.
Side effects include increased heart rate, insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, irritability, nausea, and the ever favorite, addiction. That's just a short list, their are more possible side effects (Ritalin is worse).

Ginkgo Biloba is crap. The reasoning behind it is that it thins the blood and therefore you have a greater flow of blood going to your brain.

who cares if it really works. If taking a placebo makes you think you are smarter, makes you feel smarter, and can give you better grades, i'll buy it. Who cares if it not the pills, but only you. It did something to help you.

I once actually went into a health store and asked this:

"What's the name of those herbal thingies that help your memory? I forget the name." The clerk and my GF at the time fell on the floor laughing.

They're called Ginko Biloba. And I've read that they do nothing.

If it had been me behind the counter, I would have handed you a box of laxatives with a perfectly straight face and waited for you to leave before I fell over laughing.
