Do those light reactive eyeglass lenses work well?

I need a new pair of glasses and I am considering getting the light shifting Quantum Polycarbonate lenses from 39dollarglasses.com. I keep losing/breaking hate having to fiddle with sunglasses all the time, and if these work well with no loss in clarity etc, they seem to be the ticket to end that forever.

Not very well IMO, I had some a long time ago, and though they worked, but not well. Depends on your shading needs I guess.

No they suck. They don't get dark enough to be useful compared to sunglasses. And they won't help with road glare.

I only have experience with them from many years ago when my mom had them. THey darkened up jsut fine but took forever to get clear again. I guess they worked OK but I would assume that current day ones would work much better.

takes about 20 secs to get dark, they are acutally pretty dark under the sunlight, comparble to sunglasses. But it takes about 10mins for them to clear up.

They work for general purpose, but I wouldn NEVER use them as sunglasses. Like, if you walk into a brightly lit room, they get a bit dark, hooray. If you walk into a dark room, they go crystal clear, hooray. They NEVER get dark enough to work as driving sunglasses.

If you want them as a replacement to sunglasses... don't get them. If you want them to prevent some strain on your eyes... excellent.

I heard a eye doctor once that said not to get them. He said he didn't like to see peoples eyes get adjusted to the point that you always needed protection in the sun. I imagine he has a bit of a point.
