yes
what changed in schools was they had to be recessed into the wall and not stick out because they were a hazard

Gyms still have them (at least the ones here do).

Schools hopefully do too.

Why is it that a couple of stupid kids have to ruin it for everyone?

Yup.

How is it a hazard?
The only people who are going to hit it are either stupid or overweight (i.e. fat) or a combination of both.

And the water that comes out of them is this off white color.
Luckily we have vending machines too... :p

Heh, not sticking out is the least of the regulations here. I was reading the accessibility guidelines for where I work and there was some weird rule about needing both high fountains and low fountains. People in wheelchairs need low fountains and people who have trouble bending over need high ones, you see.

No, water fountains are only found in remote locations of New York State.

They've got drinking fountains here at my college. Even the new business and engineering building that just went up last year has them.

mainily as i understand it was done to prevent people getting smashed into them in an emergency or a fight

and it wasent that they had to remove ones that were there, in NY anyway any new ones built had to be set into the sall
