not sure what type b is, but if it is the same as "candle" base than you can goto my home depot, they sell a candle base flourescent bulb for around $5.

I don't know what type b is either. Is there a major diff in the wattage? The problem is if you're going from a small to large or large to small, they'd have to be close to the same wattage or the bulb will blow pretty quick.

i think the candle bulbs are called socket b, atleast thats what the lamp is labled as. as for wattage, the wattage ratings are meant for incadecent bulbs, so you can get away with far brighter using flourecent:)

They must make them. A few weeks back, I purchased an adapter at Home Depot that allows me to use a type "B" bulb in a regular-sized socket. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't make them so they go the other way. Mine was in an obscure location at the the store. It was on one of the end caps near the lighting fixtures, but I had a guy helping me that knew the electrical section pretty well. You might just want to head over to your local Home Depot (assuming you have one nearby) and see what they have for you.

As far as wattage goes.. You should still be careful. Yes, the wattage rating was "meant" for incandescent bulbs.. but it doesen't matter. Watts are Watts.

The CF lights themselves indeed have a wattage rating. Check for it. That said, they're very, very low... at least compared to their incandescent cousins. Just make sure it's at least the same.. and if you want to be safe, a little above.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there were Type B bulbs that consume over 50W ..

i think you can stick up to 35? watts incadecents into the type B fixtures i have, but well.. 35 watt flourcents would be blinding:) so i don't think it would be a problem. 20-25watt flourcents= 100watt incadecent.
