do they make high definition formated dvds?

my dad bought a hd projector a progressive scan dvd player and is telling me he has to buy some hd dvds. I thought it didnt matter, but im not sure.

there are a few HD-WMV dvds. they are encoded in hdwmv of course and only ht pc's can play em. therea re a few pr0n titles too
