do they make cheap serial to USB adapters?

I need to get an adapter to run some test equipment on a lappy that only has USB.

Oops I read the actual post wrong. The title sounds like you want to add USB to a unit with only serial ports. I have used a USB to serial converter on several occasions.

palm computing had a serial to usb adapter to use palmIII's on the Mac. Should work on a PC too. They were like 40 bucks though. Check Belkin's websitehttp://www.belkin.com/ They have all sorts of different adapters and cables.

since we are on the topic of adapters. would this work...

Serial => PS2 => USB

This was a long time ago when the first usb mices came out. My friend didn't have a ps2 port since he was running an old AT style motherboard, and we laughed about it since thats maney adapters, but in reality, would it work?
