I don't own one yet Tkim, I'm ordering my new system sometime soon. But from what I've read the quality of the slot loads is the same as the regular tray versions. Here is some info on the drive. Mwave.com has it for $69.
I have the 106S -- just set it up yesterday. 🙂 It seems lightning fast to me, and CD's are easier than ever to insert/eject. I can't tell you about the noise, though, 'cause I can't hear the thing over my case fans. 🙂
Also, for some odd reason the Pioneer Slot-load has a digital out (spdif) while the trayload doesn't.
Wierd.
Loudness-wise my Pioneer is pretty loud spooling up. Not w/ DVD's though cause I don't think they run at full speed, but when it's reading Data CD's it sounds like some plane taking off!
The Toshiba tray-load 16/48 is much quieter . . . but it is tray load.
aopen gets their dvd products from pioneer. they are the same drive w/a different face and name. so which ever you can find cheaper (they should be about the same price). i just got my 106s from ups today, got it for $64 at www.pcwebshopper.com
