do they disable sound card in benchmarks?

Someone was telling me that people who do benchmarks for sites like anandtech(not necessarily anandtech specifically but sites like it) disable the sound card of the machine they are benching, I've never heard of this and was wondering if it was true or not?

Wow, first post in 2 years. Not bad :)

Perhaps because onboard sound cards are CPU driven?

They really shut off sound? Cause I don't see how disabling sound would affect performance as, at least dx9 games, are purely run on the GPU. I know I get the same performance as people with far better CPUs with a similar video card.

Depends on the resolution you're running and settings and such.

If your video settings are really high, the GPU is really going to limit your performance. If you turned down the res and settings, the CPU is going to have a bigger influence on the final result. In cases like that, disabling sound and freeing up more CPU power will have a bigger impact on the final results.
