Do the forum admins ever give out custom avatars?

Just wondering - I'm surprised noone has played a prank on me and gave me an avatar of a bottle of SunnyD.

Edit - I asked this because I know they give out custom titles. I'm just curious if they hand out custom avatars on occasion too.

On the Acura MDX forum they have a neat point system where you accumulate points through posts and views and you can use those points to buy custom titles. You can also buy custom titles for others which is kind of hilarious too because if the other guy doesn't have enough points to change his title back, he's hosed.

I like the idea of custom avatars.. Like, I start remembering people by their avatars and it's annoying that there are so few. Also, I kept trying to find an avatar that no one is using (used the Christmas tree bulb for a while) but it seems there are 50 people using every avatar.

I disagree on a few things. With custom avatars it affects the performance of the forum - either the page has to load images from all sorts of different hosts, or Anandtech would have to store them locally which uses up server space and bandwidth. Then they have to closely monitor all those images to make sure they aren't offensive - and plus they would class with the design of this forum.

I think the best solution is to just add more avatars to choose from. I don't mind sharing my avator with a few hundred others, as long as there is enough diversity to distinguish who is who within the same thread. Maybe they could create a avatar tier system where you get more avatars to choose from when you've been here long enough (by date, not by post count). So those here less than 6 months get maybe a dozen to choose from, those 6 months to 2 years get more, and those 2+ years get a whole bunch.

Good call, i like the idea of more avatars based on how long you have been here, as i have 1/3 the posts as many people who have been here half as long as me.
