Do the AMD Catalyst drivers support HDMI audio?

I thought I read last year that the official AMD/ATI Catalyst drivers didn't support HDMI audio. Now that there is video acceleration on ATI (ala vdpau on nVidia), I'm considering switching away from the OSS radeonhd drivers.

So far, I haven't found anything that the official driver states it does support HDMI audio. Does anyone have experience with this?

I am pretty sure they do if your card supports it. I put a 4830 in my fathers computers and ran it too 2 different hdtvs and audio goes over the hdmi. You can only have audio to one source at a time though using hdmi. I am not sure if cards older than 4800 series support it though.

edit: oops that is on windows so I am not sure about linux
