Do the 6900s still require an active DP adapter to run a third DVI display?

With the 5000 series, I know that you need an active rather than passive DisplayPort adapter in order to run a third DVI monitor. Is this still the case with the 6900s? I've tried searching around but not much has come up. Thanks.
