do telco's keep incoming phone call logs?

Even though you don't have the caller ID service on your service plan do telephone companies keep logs of incoming phone calls a customer receives? tia

No, I believe they only keep records of outgoing, or so I've heard (about 5 yrs ago). Things might've changed since.

everything is actually in a database. don't ask me how long the data lasts...

it's all computerized now. anything that involves computers has a trail. so... if you call me, given the right permits\warrants, i can find out where you called (or rather, where the call originated), but not necessarily who you are...

it is simple to make a call whose location has been disguised, you can make it appear you are calling from a different location fairly easily if you know what you are doing.

i don't know much about cell phone records though, but logically that can be tracked too.

My dad just told me that no phone calls are logged at all with the phone company he works with (Commonwealth Telephone). Only toll calls. The only way they log your calling is if you ask them too.

OK, this may sound pretty sh!tty of me for thinking of this, but after I found out my wife had been having an affair I called the phone company (ameritech) to see if I could get a log of calls made to my house since I knew her boyfriend had called a few times. The phone company said they would only log and forward those to me if I requested it in writing, otherwise they do not log incoming calls.

So they can if requested, but don't as practice.
