apologies in advance if this question has already been asked/addressed...but I didn't come across any threads in my searches.

so, I recently installed RC 1 on a new test machine and was intending to have named instances of sql server 7 and 2000 installed. However, during installation, they seem to be recognizing the xp OS as an NT workstation and consequently won't load the server components (thus only installing the client tools). Am I missing something here? Any thoughts or explanations would be greatly appreciated. I need to get sql server up and running! thanks in advance!

Are you're using XP Pro which for all practical purposes is the replacement to Win 2000 Pro?

SQL Server requires a server operating system to be installed as server mode. Placing it on XP Pro would be the same as Win 2000 Pro, just desktop mode and utilities only.

ah, thanks...yes, I realized soon after I posted that 2000 Pro didn't have the server support I needed. So, is there going to be an XP server version? I hope so!

Thanks for the clarification.
