Do some Asus K7V motherboards come with onboard audio and some without?

Do some Asus K7V motherboards come with onboard audio and some without?

If so, are there any other significant differences between the two?

I was just about to purchase a K7V but after hearing this decided to wait to get some forum input.

Thanks, rnmcd

Yes there is version of K7V with on board audio. They cost little more. I would suggest to buy one without audio and get a good sound card.

Yeah, I wouldn't use the on-board sound either. My K7V has it (it was the only version of the board I could get at the time) but I just disabled it in the BIOS and use a SB Live!.

I am guessing you mean, "Performance Wise" No!🙂
Sound Wise, Well that depends on what kind of sound card you choose for the K7Vw/o sound... I have the K7V with onboard sound and I have it disabled because I already had a good sound card.. Just happened to be the only one in Stock at the time I ordered my Athlon 750.. If you are trying to decide between the two, One is no better than the other....😉🙂

I was checking out other sites and they said that differences include: different South Bridge Systems, different AGP supports, and different placement of USB ports.

Does that sound correct?

Thanks,rnmcd

Why does everyone suggest to not buy boards w/onboard sound? I have an Aopen AK72 w/onboard sound and it works awesomely. Sounds great. I have even opted not to put my Soundblaster 16 in and am using the onboard sound. I don't see any reason not to get it if there is no performance decrease because if your soundcard sh$ts the bed at least you will have a back-up.

Because most of those people are using either A3D or EAX supported soundcards. Also, why pay more for onboard sound if someone already owns a soundcard. Obviously this doesn apply to people that dont have soundcards.

I have a K7V without sound and video..I love it, it has bee rock solid ever since I bought it.

Yes, there is the K7V with audio, and the K7V without audio. If you were to choose one, the smart desicion would be to get the K7V without audio, and put in a non-integrated sound card, for 2 reasons:
1) Because the sound quality is terrible.
2) Because using integrated sound uses up computer resources, and can significantly reduce performance.

Good luck.

Why does everyone keep asking this question?

What I want to know is if the K7V's without audio also lack hardware monitoring features.

I have a K7V without sound, and I am disappointed to report that it also lacks the hardware monitoring features.

My guess is that ASUS makes "fully equipped" K7V's and then cut down versions. My guess is the fully equipped ones comes with onboard audio and built in hardware monitoring featuers. And that the cut down ones lack both of those features.

That is just my guess, I don't really know...

If true however, you should be asking instead, "Do some of the K7V's without sound come with hardware monitoring features?"
