Do soldiers' families get compensated if they're KIA

This is just general:

Including burial benefit and standard insurance the family gets less than $10,000.
The wife gets about $800/month until she remarries.
Each kid gets about $250/month until the age of 18.

Great benefit package for the people who protect our freedom, isn't it?


Edit: BTW, when I was in VN in 1968 if I had been killed my family would have received $10,000 death benefit. It's gone down. We really treat our uniformed people well.:disgust:

I think its plenty.. Actually "people" should be in the military if they are "expecting" something out of it.. Its a volunteer system and its worked great so far.

Geeze, for kids under 18, Social Security pays out more than veteran's benefits do.

The only problems with that are that with the horribly low pay of low-level military people, they cant hardly afford a decent life insurance policy to protect their family. Hell, a luxury like life insurance, a good portion of them are on food stamps.
