Do Socket-370 heatsinks work/attach on the Socket-A (Duron)?

I was wondering that because there weren't any new heatsinks that sported the 'For Duron' badge, so if anybody could give me an answer, I'd appreciate it.

I'm talking about the PEP66, FEP66, FDP66, CPM-32, etc.

Thx,Yux

Yeah Socket370 heatsinks will work you just have to be careful of two things.

- The old PGA Cellys had a much bigger surface area than the durons, so the heatsink has less to touch onto (the Duron is a Flip-Chip style packaging like the new Cellys) but the feet on the Duron should balance it out.

- The new FC-PGA Cellys are about hte same size as a duron but the duron has the little feet the Celly and CuMine don't. Many FC-PGA370 HSFs come with little feet of their own, so you might want to pull those off and use the Durons.

Just a couple things to keep an eye on but not a big deal usually. Socket370 coolers are usually fine for SocketA.

The S7 fans suck at cooling. GORB-alikes run $12 at most shops. Dump the S7 fan and go GORB-style! Seriously, the centrifical force of the fan carries the heat away from the center of the heatsink, creating a much cooler scenario for the processor.

More powerful fans and better materials will come along to get even bigger thermalclines in the near future. Why use inefficient and outdated cooling when such an effective and inexpensive solution is available?

Haervii.Golden Orb is a excellent heatsink/fan goto Anandtech homepage for review of heatsinks/fan including GORB.

It's not the best option, because it's not specific for the Socket-A chips. It will most likely not cool it nearly as much as it should, and you have to be extremely careful putting it on, because with heatsinks that don't fit properly, they can scratch the top of the chip, and it will be ruined.
