Do soaps with moisturizer really help prevent dry skin in the winter?

i've been using THIS for the past 15months, and it doesnt help prevent dry skin in the winter. (12bar pack)

What bar soaps do? (if any)

If you have really dry skin, you need to switch to body wash. What works very well for extremely dry skin is Olay Ribbons. Yes, it's aimed at women, but it works and nobody has to know that you used it. If you have just a little dry skin, try any of the body washes aimed at men. If you really, really insist on using bar soap, switch to Dove.

Yeah, I used to have really bad dry skin...I switched to body wash and I no longer itch like hell anymore. Before, if I stayed still in a room that was above 70 degrees, i would this this sensation of sharp tingling all over my back, legs, and head. Swicthed to body wash and I now it is fine.

This man knows what he is talking about. Even the worst body wash prevents dry skin better than the best bar for me. Good moisturizers just aren't solid at room temperature (think about it). Plus, body washs are far faster* to use in the shower if you want to be really clean. Dove is about the best of the bar soaps, but even that doesn't do very well. I've never tried the Olay Ribbons though.

* Note: sponge or poof needed for speed with body wash.

I've never been able to find a bar soap that didn't dry out my skin. Use a good body wash instead.

Soap bar is teh debil, I haven't used one in a long time. I now use my wife's body wash, don't let the packaging fools you and it won't make you any less masculine if you use it.

If you don't have a wife, go to Bath and Body and look in the men corner (we don't really have a section), and pick up some moisturizing body wash, along with the scrubbies.

I used the Irish Spring for years (I liked the smell) and wondered why I had such dry skin. I then bought into the moisturizing soap ads, and I guess they were right! I've been through a few brands and all the ones marketed for chicks as "moisturizing soap" seem to work well enough for me.

I like Dove because I can buy it in bulk (along with my beef) at Costco and it's got a neutral smell. Every now and then Dove comes out with some flavored soap, and I try them and regret smelling like whatever. Stick with the plain white Dove if you decide to use it.

Also, I like Lubriderm for its neutral smell and non-greasy feel. I'm not a lotion maniac, though. I use it when I feel dry, not everyday.

Oh, and I shower at least twice a day (if I don't go to the gym or beach or excercise).

I don't think that men are suppose to be talking about this stuff, and I'm now feeling a little insecure with myself.

Can someone hold me?

I think it's because the sweat glands get clogged from underuse. I don't feel that in the summer.

Dove is probably one of the better soaps for dry skin. Having said that, you might want to consider getting some good lotion and maybe try cutting your showers to once every 2 days when possible. Every time you wash the man stink off, you're removing oil from your skin. Also, try to protect your skin from the elements by layering your clothes. Working outdoors in the winter sometimes results in sun or wind damage. Try to wear gloves and cover up when possible.

My dermatologist told me that Dove soap is the best (I have sensitive skin). I used to use irish spring and he told he that soaps like irish spring dries out the skin too much and is too harsh to the skin.

Dove gets another

Works well. If my gf and her 3 girl roomies use it I know I'm using the right stuff for good skin.

if you're concerned about dry skin, don't use bar soap.

I use dove year round and a moisturizer on my face/hands.

Why would you use bar soap when body wash is so much more convenient?

Not to mention much more sanitary.

Really, is sanitation a concern when it comes to bar soaps?

Water based moisturizers on skin exposed to the cold can damage the skin when the water is frozen into ice crystals. I use a small amount of olive oil as a moisturizer each morning after shaving and each evening before going to bed. The olive oil works well as long as it is spread thinly.
