We have about 10 computers at work, and they're on a network. My boss was talking to today about how he set one up last week with a static IP address, and then accused me of changing it to a dynamic one. I'm not sure what he was getting at exactly, he's a wee bit off kilter....anyway, I don't know anything about networks really, or setting them up, but was always led to believe that if you're on a cable or t1 connection, you have a static IP...

to have dynamic you need to install DHCP on a server....overall, dynamic is just as easy as static, only issue with static is you should document it, with dynamic, all you have to do is check your DHCP client

Internal: Typically dynamic, as it's just set it and forget it
External: Also typcially dynamic, unless they are a Satellite office or require remote access

Use dynamic unless you have strong and compelling reasons to do otherwise.

Really, this has nothing to do with whether the office has internet capability or not-- even with Internet connectivity your internal network IP addresses should be assigned dynamically.

The real answer is someone with a small business with ten computers needs to have someone who understands networks set one up.
With a question like this, odds are your netwrok is fvcked up and vulnerable in ways you're not even aware of.

More than likely a consultant firm can come in and have you fixed up, and probably more efficient in a couple of days.
