I noticed my maxtor drive has the option of turning Acoustic Management on and off and I was wondering if seagate drives have that option as well. Maybe only high end drives?
Any reason why? To increase performance? Maybe it should have been an option to let people have the drive run quieter and slower, better for SFF that are ultra quiet.
Maybe I should clarify somewhat.
The acoustic management is turned on by default on recent Seagate drives. However, you cannot alter it; i.e. turn it on or off.
You should be able to use the now hitachi tool to boot and make the changes. As long as the drives are S.M.A.R.T capable, you can reconfigure the acoustic properties.
I tried on the seagate drive but no go, I was able to change the acoustic management on the maxtor drive in the same system so I know it's not the utility, or so I don't think.
