Do Sapphire charge for their RMA service?

Hi, my Sapphire Radeon 9700 np recently stopped working - there was no POST - the retailer who I bought it from recently went out of business and when I contacted Sapphire [I called their UK office] for a RMA they said that a £25 'administration fee' has to be paid for the service. Well I was just wondering if they could do this? The card is still under warranty but I have never heard of someone having to pay a fee to actually use the warranty on their product, surely they can't get away with this? I am a student so money is tight and would rather not pay the charge if there is a way around it. Do you think a call to Sapphire HQ in HK will help?

Any help appreciated,

Osmo

That sounds ridiculous to me, I'd call back and see if they try charging you again. If they do, ask for a manager and then do your best "This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen..." routine. Just remember to be polite unless provoked, and you'll usually get what you're after (assuming it's within reason).

Ok, I phoned back and tried speaking to the manager but that was a no go, but I found out why they charge an 'administration fee.' The RMA people are not actually Sapphire but an independant company who deals with RMA's for Sapphire, the REP said that they charge a fee to 'basically make a profit,' he wouldn't budge on the matter and said that it was company policy- he told me that if I wanted to complain I could write to Sapphire HQ but that they would tell me the same. I suppose that I might have to bite the bullet and just pay the £25, if I had a bit more time then i could try reaserching on it a bit more but this POS Voodoo Banshee is REALLY getting to me and I want my Radeon back.

I'd call Sapphire's UK HQ (assuming they have one) and complain to them then, because that's total BS that you're expected to pay for a warranty replacement. I'd send the card in and pay the £25 (try to have them send a paper bill in the mail) and then forward that bill to Sapphire. If need be, put a letter in there saying that you'll never buy a Sapphire card again, etc. The almighty dollar (or pound sterling) will most likely change their act.
