Do roof racks for cars (Thule / yakima), etc. Ever go on sale?

Got a new passat station wagon and looking for Thule crossbars and some mounts. Looking at $200-300 minimum.

I have run into this before looking for other cars as well. It seems this stuff never really goes on sale.

Has anyone ever gotten a good deal on this stuff?

Why isn't there a competitor out there undercutting everyone else?

A long time ago I traded someone a trunk mount rack for the cross bars, all I needed to buy was the locks.

in fact my parents still have the bars if I remember correctly. Do you live near atlanta?

ebay, craigslist, etc? Or maybe a coupon for a site that sells them but good luck...

My best results are Craigslist, where I can often find things pretty inexpensively. For new, agees.com is pretty cheap - no tax, free shipping, plus something like 10% off.

I third the Craigslist idea. I bought an entire roof rack system, Thule, off Craigslist Austin for pennies on the dollar.
