It seems the A64 pretty much wins against the Pentium 4 in everything... yet people still keep insisting that HT helps in the "real world" and that with multiple things in the background HT makes the P4 faster.

Does anyone know of any benchmarks/reviews done with a real world scenerio?

In my mind that would be.....

WinXP SP2
Norton AV 2004 in system tray
Teamspeak in background connected to a server
AIM taskbar
Quicktime taskbar
Real Player taskbar
Winamp with music playing during test
MSN Messenger
Various realworkd background processes such as (acrobat, photoshop, MS office, nero, itunes, all the symantec crap)

Im not directly saying bench 3dmark while compiling maya or running some super intense photo rendering, but im interested in how games and benchmarks run under the "real world" setup i have listed above.

I know benchmakrs have to be objective and reviewers have to make everything fair, but no proper computer lacks AV and almost everyone, even gamers have background apps that are installed with or without their knowledge. Also i find myself listening to music alot when i game and sometimes leave Trillian or MSN open etc.... in the background.

AT usually benches SysMark and Winstone, which are supposed measure performance in such real world apps. Not sure how you'd benchmark a processor's performance with the apps you listed though. Maybe turn WinAMP on while running a test?

well it would simply be benchmarking something like Quake 3 with these programs or similar programs int he background, benching Doom3, and all the others... etc.....

No gamer has an absolutely perfect clean computer, everyone has background stuff and id would be interesting to see how the P4 with HT did against the A64 in that sort of scenerio.
