I've always thought that the stereotype of a man was big, grizzly, strong, and hairy, so a real man wouldn't even trim

Of course not. Like everywhere else, keep hair manageably cropped. You don't have to shave it bare though.

About once every 4 weeks or so , I have to head into the bathroom and trim the hair on my chest, I go ahead and hit the pits while I am there.

Why does he do this you ask? Well left to its own accord, my chest hair can get really long (over 2"). When that happens and I lay in bed with my wife she snuggles over and puts her head on my chest , if the hair is long, it pokes her in the eye and gets drawn into her nostrils as she breathes heavily due to the fact she is near me She doesnt like this to happen, therefore I trim my long body hair to make her happy.

I reset the clock, so to speak, on all my body hair a few times a year, or else it gets so long that I dont feel attractive.
