Do ram cooling fans work?

Hello all,

My home office here in Florida stays a bit warm I have noticed my ram being a bit warm so I am looking for a fan cooling solution for them. They have metal heat sinks on them already so I was thinking a ram fan would prefer one on the quiet side.

The usual answer to this is just direct a regular case fan over them. A gentle breeze is all that is required.

Unless you're planning some crazy overclocks, I don't see why you would be very concerned....

Well my Kingmax DDR2 800 mhz value ram could only touch around 830 mhz without any additional cooling. After I mounted two 60 mm fans on it, it reaches an "incredible" 855 mhz. So , in my case ram cooling made a difference.

Antec Spot Cool....probably the cheapest and easiest solution to cooling your RAM, not to mention it's got the most flexibility in its mounting.......

i just have a nexus 120mm fan blowing over my Gskill DDr100 ram and its cool to the touch @ 2.05vRam.

keep in mind that if your room temps are high, recirculating warm air doesn't lower temperatures

i think the cheap thermal tape many of them use is a better insulator than conductor ...
good airflow with no heatspreader has always been the best in my experience

If your motherboard has enough space between the video card and the RAM slots (you need less than 1/2", but quite a few boards don't have that much) you can use the OCZ XTC RAM cooler. If you used with a fan controller or a 7V/5V Adapter it's very quiet and provides the necessary airflow.

If you can suffer through a design-cut-&-construct tedium, you shouldn't need any fans for either the RAM or your chipset.

Try simple panels of foam-art-board to duct the motherboard to an exhaust fan. Generally this means drawing air through the narrow space between the mobo [and its components], and a flat motherboard duct panel. Air will rush around the RAM and chipset heatsink if you do this well, and you've done it without adding a few more watts of power drawn from your system, or without the extra noise from deploying additional fans.

If you start with this prototype of foam-art-board pieces glued together, you can eventually replace it with a Lexan replica.
