Do Radeons HD 6870 support 4 monitors?

With my 5870 you can use two "legacy connections" (VGA/DVI/ HDMI) and then up to 6 (with the eyefinity edition) Displayport connections. So if you have two using DVI and two using DP then that SHOULD work.

Non-"Eyefinity 6 Edition" cards will only support up to 3 outputs at a time. I'm not sure if they make an Eyefinity 6 Edition version of the 6870.

Depending on how much GPU power you need, you can get the 5770 Eyefinity 5 Edition for the same price as the 6870... It will be much slower, but you can hook up 5 monitors simultaneously...

*SIGH*, I love it when people post about what they don't know, at least say your just guessing.

Yes, with any of the 68XX and 69XX series cards you can output up to 6 displays (no idea on the 67xx whenever those come out). You can only have 2 hooked to the DVI and HDMI ports but up to 6 can be hooked to the mini DP (3 per port) using 2 splitters. You don't need an active DP adapter if hooking to native DP LCD's like your U2311's.

I THINK something like the below will work for hooking 2 LCD's up per display port but others can correct me as I'm going off memory. However, for the cheapest solution I would hook up 2 of the LCD's with the DVI ports using the included cables and 2 of them with display ports.

EDIT* Here is a link to an AMD paper detailing the 68xx series technology including eyefinity.

I'll try that. Anything special about the dvi cables? I've heard something about requiring single-link cables (perhaps when using w/ DP to dvi adapters?) but I don't know if it's just nonsense.

I'm planning to get:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...SUS-_-14121418

that has 2 dvi and 2 (non-mini) DPs, and longer cables such as:

The only thing you will need is 2 monitors with DisplayPort and two with DVI and you should be golden.

It will do 4 displays. 2 via DVI/HDMI and then 2 more through displayport.

No, it will do 6, all through display port or 4 on dp and 2 on DVI/HDMI

The only thing you will need is 2 monitors with DisplayPort and two with DVI and you should be golden.

Or you can run all 4 via the DP with none running on DVI/HDMI. In his case since all 4 LCD's have DP's he can run them all via that if he wants.

The cheapest option is to run 2 via DVI (you should have received DVI cables with your LCD's) and 2 via displayport since DVI cables are cheaper (if you can't find yours) than DP cables for whatever reason. However, if you get splitters you can do all the LCD's off display port if you want. I know of no advantages/disadvantages either way though someone else might.

Yes he can but DP cables are pricey

I just did some searching and though the cables are not that expensive the freaking splitters are... cheapest I found for a 3 way splitter was $200! I would stick with the 1 monitor per port thing... I had no idea it would cost that much to go with 6 monitors.

he may want to avoid that card. the custom dp dp dvd dvi outputs are fine for now, but if the card fails then it may not be possible to find a replacement in a year or 2. At least with a reference design there is a better chance for a similar card to still be around.
