Do radar jammers actually work?

I was looking at getting a radar detector since the local police have seemingly misplaced their warning ticket book. The only reason to not have one I have heard, step-father is with the highway patrol, is because having one and getting pulled over would result in a speeding ticket.

Wife got pulled over in a Va speed trap, cop lied about it and would not show the radar result. Cop is always right even when they are liars, so we pay a lawyer to get out of it.

Wife got pulled over for speeding in a work zone that consisted of a lot of orange barrels and invisible workers and no work going on. $250 ticket and court cost

I got pulled over for 12 over on a deserted highway by a local cop (The local police force is accused of being racist if anyone is following the other Peterson local murder trial will know) I was guilty of being white in a nice car in a black neighborhood. I had a clean record, no parking or no traffic tickets. I thought I would have been given a warning. He took my license and registration back to his car and ran my plates (Surprised he did not ask if he could search the car) He returns 15 minutes later with a ticket. I go to court and use my vacation day to pay for this as well as the hundred dollar revenue generator that they like to call speeding tickets nowadays. I get a prayer for judgement so it will not count against me.

At each of these events, all withing the last 3 years, we were always courteous and polite and always the pr!ck of a cop gave us a ticket.

The one that I am interested in is the:

The RMR-C430 Laser and Radar Detector/Jammer from Rocky Mountain Radar disables X, K, Ka (superwide), instant-on radar guns and the new POP Radar, as well as Police laser guns. The RMR-C430 also detects the Safety Alert (SA) and Safety Warning System (SWS).This offers maximum protection from all radar and laser bands for carefree driving. The Smart-Scan Detectors are the ONLY Radar Detectors that will detect the New POP Radar. (This is an upgraded RMR-C302)

Features Include:

Detects New POP radar, X, K, Ka Super Wide Band, and All Laser
Smart-Scan Technology (Reduces False Signals)
Micro-Scan Technology (Detects the New POP radar)
Full Feature 360¢ª Radar and Laser Detection
City/Highway Mode, Mute, Dim, and Signal Strength
VG-2 Detection, VG-2 and VG-3 Undetectable
Volume Controls and Last Setting Memory
Windshield Mount and Power Cord
Features A Full 3 Year Warranty
Automatic Internal Jammer Test Mode
Free 1 Year Ticket Rebate (see bottom of this page for information)

I don't think it will help that much. Radar does not say WHICH car is going the certain speed, it just says a car does. He could just use the speed of someone next to you and pull you over witht hat.

Well, most states right now are in a huge budget crunch, so they're gonna generate revenue as best they can. My recommendation is that you simply watch your speed more closely, you and your wife.

Most states do not require the officer to show the speeder their RADAR display because it's not only a safety issue for the officer, but also the driver, exiting their vehicle and walking back to the patrol car can be very dangerous. I'm sure you'd rather have your wife around to bitch about the officer and the ticket rather than have her get killed by a semi passing to close to the patrol vehicle. Or maybe getting crushed in between your car and the patrol car by a drunk driver that rear ends the patrol vehicle. Add to that that in most cases, the officer does not even have to "lock in" the speed observed, they can write based on their highest observed speed on the readout.

The simple and cheap answer to your question is simply, stop speeding. It doesn't get you anywhere faster. In fact, if you include the time you spend getting pulled over, you probably could have made the same trip a couple of times in the time it took the officer to run the plates and fill out the ticket.

Oh, one more thing. That LASER jammer is all fine and well, but if I'm not mistaken, you can be shot from the rear of your vehicle too, negating the front mounted jammer. Just stop playing Smokey and the Bandit with your local LEOs.

Have you stopped giving warning tickets?

I received 2 warning tickets when i was in high school, both times when I was pulled over. This was 10 years ago. Now I don't get any warnings nor do any of my friends that get pulled over. The speed trap in Virginia consisted of him lieing on the ticket. The wife saw him at the top of a hill over a mile away and checked her speed. She was going 5 over at the time, by the time she reached him she was going the speed limit. He only pulled us over because we had out of state plates and said that he clocked us at 11 over.

The work zone was a crock because we were going under the regular posted limit but above the work zone limit.

Mine was probably due, but come on 12 mph over on an empty street with a clean record and me being polite and calling the officer "sir"

I read an article somewhere (heck, I think I got the link from ATOT) from a company that tested all of the radar "jammers" available. Not a single one jammed anything. Not a single one worked as advertised. Waste of money. Unless you're going to pack your back seat and trunk full of electronic gear, and a small fusion reactor to power it, while wearing a solid lead suit - I don't see it happening.
