Might start investing some of my time in some of those games.

Any thoughts or are they just gimmicks?

they just make you better at those games. the dual n-back test however has potential to improve your working memory, but such claims are always controversial.

i personally think learning new things and challenging yourself mentally is the best way to keep yourself sharp.

I read a study on this, but I can't remember what the conclusion was.

Anyway, yes and no. Inactive minds to tend to degenerate. However, I question folks that are able to "map out" or gauge your brain health from puzzle games.

If you think your daily life isn't challenging, take up something new that will pick your brain. Reading a book, learning to write code, practicing music....something.

this (inactive anything in the body tends to degenerate to the minimum needed)
