Do police really have quotas on howmany people to give traffic tickets to?

Do police really have quotas on howmany people to give traffic tickets to? I live in california and some people said that....they said be careful tonight since its 31st and they gotta fill those quotas....is that true?

dont know if it's true or not. but i personally notice more cops on the street as the end of the month approaches. i tend to be more cautious and pay closer attention to the speed im going during this time. 🙂

The local PD here officially said they've no quotas.....which in turn is nothing but lies according to some of the local cops (speaking in anonymity, of course).

We always had that sort of situation in Miami. They would say no quotas but then the biggest ticket writing days would be the end of the month.

A traffic cop once explained it this way to me. NO we dont have quotas but we notice those whose performance is'nt in line with the other officers.... Sounds pretty much like any other line of work no?

hah, just a coincidance......likely story...why would they have to get a quota, i mean what if by some miracle....EVERYONE follows all the laws for a given month.....what then...

That's the same thing I was told by a traffic school teacher, who said he was a retired cop.

same thing an officer told me a month ago.

never been pulled over, and dont plan on it 🙂

But i hear in california theres alaw against quotas like that...is that true?

You have to remember guys, traffic tickets are a source of revenue for the city. So, when the # of traffic tickets goes down so does the revenue going into the city. That's why they have quotas, to maintain a certain level of cash flow into the coffers of politicians. Plain and simple.

I started a thread a couple of months ago about the end of the month quota syndrome.. this is when I got a ticket at the 31'st of the month coz I crossed a solid double line.... I did that at least 100 times b4... but I was never caught.... not yet anywass 🙁

Officially? No. They dont publicly declare them, but I know four police officers and they all say that they do. They range from 25-40 on local PDs, to 50-100 for State Police.

Exactly. Once the local gov'ts. started PROJECTING the ticket fine revenue in their respective local budgets, as all local jurisdictions do, then there HAS to be a quota, implicitly spelled out or not, because it is implied.

It's unofficial, but helps for career advancement. Field Cops who just give verbal warnings all the time will eventually find their way to desk duty.

THeres gotta be quota, tickets and other fines are fundraisers basically, just that you dont get to write off this donation.
