Do philosophical thoughts mess with you?

I don't know how common this is, but do you find the process of thinking on philosophical thoughts to be...very disturbing at times? Ie capable of inducing anxiety that lasts for days, maybe weeks?

I guess the most easy to note would be an existential crisis so to speak (if that isn't too cliche to use) which brings lots of philosophical questions on. Smaller things are still capable of inducing that kind of stress though :(

ummm no, the only thing coming close to that is contemplating death and that only get me depressed for a few minutes. TBH I really try to avoid thinking of such things, there really isn't much in life where a deep philosophical understanding of the world will make you happy, usually it is either useless or just depressing. Just take it on principle that the world is fuxed up aint there aint crp you can do about it and your life will be alot happier than if you obsess over all the philosophical problems in this world. The fact of the matter is that the real "answers" you might be seeking are things you might be alot happier never finding.

Yeah I'm starting to think so.

Philosophy is difficult to read. Personal philosophy is easy if you don't read Philosophy.

If you examine your life and desire to understand it completely, you'll need to live alone for a few years (without human contact). That's the first stage.

philosophy is something I truly admire, at least some of it... and I have a lot of my own ideas and share the same thoughts about life as some philosophers, but I don't really want to get into it.
but it doesn't depress me at all. some of the ideas I have would require me to be brutally honest and make me a hated man if I told them to many people, as I feel humanity is a waste of an organism with little hope and that I hope all the possible doomsday scenarios actually occur so as to wipe out humanity. oh and I believe in no heaven or hell, and while I enjoy the thought of some kind of ghost life or sci-fi'ish idea of life in a parallel universe or in another organism after death, I don't look forward to anything.
but I do enjoy life, maybe even more so than others and is what defines me and makes me who I am. Enjoy the life I have now as it's the only one I'll get.
that's a taste of my philosophies. ;)
oh and I have never been so bothered as to any idea I think up that it caused anxiety, at most a disturbing idea or realization would simply prompt me to continue to think of it in further depth, or to fall asleep. Most of my philosophising occurs while sitting in bed. My mind wonders a great many places and it takes me forever to fall asleep.

now back to my futurama episodes. :)

Eh? I don't know if I would classify it as a psychological "problem", more of just a strong anxiety when thinking about such things. Perhaps more than is natural, though. Absolutely no detriment to daily functioning, just a large amount of brain cycles given to it.

If I don't give time to it and dwell on it, there is nothing troubling so to speak of. I'll let it go for long periods of time and then one thought leads to another and then for some reason it comes back to bite me :Q

I've pretty much resolved man's most enthralling philosophical ponderings, so no, they don't mess with me any longer :)

But seriously, anyone who has a Nietzsche quote in their sig probably is gonna have a pretty messed up personal philosophy if you ask me.

Nope, but then again, I usually stay in the shallow end of the philosophy pool, splashing about and playing with the other children, rarely venturing into waters that could go over my head. I used to frequent the deep end but more than anything, it's just tiring after so many hours.

I tend to enjoy philosophy, sociology and psychology, but I don't let them govern my mood :p.

The quote I tend to remember the most is from Max Weber, "We need the poor; who else is going to clean my streets?" It's not exact (and if someone has the exact quote, that'd be cool... I think I tried to find it once without avail), but close enough :p.
