Do people still wear rigid gas permeable lenses?

I was getting new contact solution tonight and I saw that there are like 5 different brands of solution for rigid gas perm lenses. Do people still wear them? If so....why? Soft contacts come in toric, extended range, bifocal, everything....why are there people out there with those lenses still?

my mom wears gas permeable lenses. i think she has been wearing contacts for like 20 years so....i guess she just hasnt bothered changing

Soft contacts are dangerous in certain occupations. (Of course you could just wear prescription safety glasses!)

Especially around big motors in manufacturing.....or wherever an electric arc might be present. The soft lense can become permanently stuck to the cornea resulting in instant blindness when you pull the lense (and the cornea) out.

Hard lenses are not a problem in those situations.

my gf has the hard lenses...there's some reason for it but i don't remember. i just make fun of her for it all the time.
