Those were the days@!!! All nighters and clans and the whole FPS thingee!!
I seriously dount there is even anything close to being as fun as Quake2 was!
I tried the Unreal series of ganes and the rest of Quake3, 4...etc....nothing beats the friends met through playing Quake2!!

Quake2 got me into FPS gaming. Action Quake 2 made me love it. But the original UT and CS will forever live as true classic FPS gems.

Oh god, how could I forget about Tribes. Only one of the best games ever. I wish someone would make a decent sequel. Tribes 2 was lackluster and I never bothered with Vengeance. Hell, I'd be happy with a Tribes Source/Crymod Mod. :D

i was a teenager those days. first online fps and haven't felt satisfied since. i actually have the flag taken sound file for my text message ring tone. had to extract it out of the .pak files from my q2 directory. the community, people, all of it was awesome. i would wake up every monday morning and look at planetquake.com's mod of the week. LMCTF will forever be true to me though.

You can never replace Quake with Tribe/TF style games :) Quake is close fighting, where 1v1, rocket jump, bunny hop rockets are skills sorta required for good players. Tribes are team based like TF, casual players can do well and have fun if they support a good team..

Quake 2 is still alive. Perhaps the best community (and group of servers), at least as far as the US is concerned, is here tastyspleen.net

Great selection of servers (like 20+ of various mods and a fairly consistent player base) and great admins.

Check out the forums and introduce yourself.

Last quake2 mod I remember playing was Gloom...wouldn't mind picking that up again if there were a decent server with 20+ players

Ah, Q2.

Find a modded server, 10 grenades = Cataclysmic device. If you could see it go off you are probably already dead.

Kroze...

How did you patch the demo to 3.2...I thought it would only patch the full retail version...

I have Quake 2 somewhere... but not sure where, unless my son has it... great game.

I'll tell you though, Call of Duty 4 and the new one WaW are both awesome... an absolute blast

If you download/install the 3.14? demo and then install the FULL 3.20 patch (don't have to install the CTF version I don't think, unless you want to play CTF of coruse) you will have full online functionality.

Yea, the 3.20 patch will update the DEMO version of Quake 2 and include q2dm1-q2dm8. You will then have full online functionality with q2dm1-q2dm8.

After that, just download whatever maps you don't have or install CTF or whatever mod you want to play.
