do people normally mow the yard under these conditions?

OK, my dad is out mowing the lawn right now, at night. we live in a subdivision and i am sure the neighbors are not happy. tropical Bill came thru and it has been raining everyday since. but currently there is a thunderstorm going on, with lightning and rain and he is still mowing. arnt you NOT supposed to mow when the ground is wet? and certainly not right after a tropical storm and a thunderstorm beating down on you.

/currently hiding upstairs hoping that he will not call me to help

LOL!

When our neighbors moved in from Up North, the husband was trying to mow the lawn during a bad lightning storm. I wanted to run outside and shout at him to get his ass indoors, but he finally figured it out after a couple of close strikes.

I take it y'all are not natives of the South?

Man, I remember I had to mow the grass every 2 or 3 days in Mississippi. Stupid grass....

Anyway, you aren't supposed to mow when it's wet. In MS and LA at least, that gives you a 45 minute window between the dew and cataclysmic thunderstorms. ;)

Yeah...mowing when it's wet is a bad idea. It just makes it harder and more likely to clog your mower. Mowing in a thunderstorm is just stupid though.

Doesn't matter as long as you don't care about ruts in the yard or having cleaning under the mower every few swipes. It doesn't matter as far as the grass is concerned.

Pretty dumb to be doing anything outside while there's lightning in the area and pushing around a big hunk of metal just makes it worse. Mowing the grass when it's wet is a major bitch as it tends to clog up pretty easily, but sometimes there's no other choice. We had a very wet spring here and never seemed to go 2 days in a row without rain. It never stopped raining long enough to dry out completely, so we were forced to mow when wet. If we had waited the grass would have been 3 feet high.

Nope, I never mow when the grass is wet... bad on the mower, wouldn't it be? (creates a hell of lot more resistance and clogs it up.) Plus the grass will just grow back the next day after getting water :p

As far as the grass is concerned, it doens't matter.

As far as the mowing person is concerned, it's more difficult and obviously wetter, so if that's your thing, then go for it.

PS: Wanna see grass grow fast? I put down some 46-0-0 fertilizer last week for fun and watered it in really well during a sunny warm spell. Damn grass grew 1.5" in 24 hrs! :)
