Do people care?

So I was wondering if people care? I am starting to think about the meaning of life. There are so many problems in the world. I have so many problems in my life, but it isn't that bad yet. So I guess I wonder if I should worry about stuff, or just let it be and not think about it, or try not to? I want my life to have meaning or value, I know it does, but I think there is a difference in what I want it to mean/experience and what actually is. What do you do when that happens?

Sorry can't watch Youtube.

Thanks for answering. I think one of the problems with me is that I don't have a family or close friends. Maybe I am missing something.

Lol It's just the Nickelback song "If Everyone Cared"

Thread made me think of it.

In answer to your question though, do what you care about. If you have no control over what you care about, work toward getting more control over it.

Only those with power change anything.

Granted, I'm 19, not exactly the wizened Ivory Tower Oracle.

Sounds like you just got out of a serious relationship, my guess. Often times if you get in a very serious relationship too quickly you will alienate your friends and family.

That hypothesis aside, I know how you feel. I have friends, but not much of a family.

Nope...not as a rule. At least, not about anything that doesn't affect them directly. Sure, some people care about AIDS, or starving kids in Africa, as long as it's convenient for them to do so, but when it's really crunch time, we humans really only care about ourselves, (and maybe our families) and the things that impact us...whether we have control of them or not.

6000 kids die every day just from drinking contaminated water (mostly in africa). so probably people don't care all that much, if they did wouldn't we stop such things? but it can't make sense to postpone your own happiness because bad things happen in the world

2 thought provoking books on happiness:

Authentic Happiness, by amazing psychologist and researcher Martin Seligman

Happiness, by economist Richard Layard (looks at new research on why people and societies are happy or not)

Some people care, some people don't. If you think more people should, you should join a group that does some kind of charity work or something. Then you'd be around a bunch of people who do care and it might make you feel at least a little better.

You can't get too worked up over whether or not "people" care about things. Just about everybody cares about something. The question you ask is pretty vague. Is there an issue in particular you feel is neglected?

That reminds me of this scene from city slickers

Let me clue you in to the meaning of life: it's about passing the time until you die. Or it's 42. Take your pick and care about that.
