do one-strap backpacks really put all the weight on one shoulder and make you crooked?

I don't know about making you crooked... but it would put uneven pressure on your spine which could cause back problems... I suppose if you did that often enough with enough weight it could potentially cause your spine to perminantly curve, similar to the way your fingers change shape a little throughout your life.

IIRC, there were studies at one time that showed how bad it was for paperboys to have a big bag of newspapers..

It doesn't "make you crooked" really.

But if you wear a heavy backpack on one shoulder too often, your body can compensate to the point where you limp when the weight isn't there.

Also happens to guys who always carry their briefcase with one hand or gals who always use the same arm for their purses.

it can make you crooked if you're still growing. my guess is it would take a long time to make a difference once you're grown.

hey gopunk - me too! my right shoulder is longer than my left, and it's also lower...I'm always carrying heavy bags on my right shoulder...ever since I was in the 3rd grade.

yes. my right shoulder was an inch lower than my left one.

<--- not kidding

Not surprised, didn't mean that in a bad way.

In seventh grade I hung my bag on one shoulder, well, because that seemed to fit me better, but back then probably had to do with seeing other kids do it, anyway, the point is, the next year I could notice when I wore it on both shoulders that it was uneven.

yea you should seriously invest in a nice internal frame backpack (one with a sheet and stay)... i can't believe i didn't do this earlier, my shoulders are starting to even out now.

I used to have a shoulder bag in elementary school, and now I hold my left shoulder slightly lower than my right. It's not totally obvious, but visible in all my ID pictures.

are you talking about the one strap book bags that stay on one side? or the ones that the strap goes across your shoulder to the other side of your body?
