Do older ATI DX9 cards support geometry instancing also?

I just got FarCry yesterday. My card is a 9700 Pro. Using Cats 4.8 which turn on geometry instancing. DLed patch 1.1 for FarCry.

When I played the Demo geometry would changed depending on how far you were away from the rocks, foliage etc. But in the actual game it doesn't do that. I heard that the technique was called geometry instancing. Could it be that the 9700 Pro also supports it?

yes dx9 radeon cards support it, but you need the 1.2 patch and have to put in a console command to enable it. oh and the 1.2 patch sucks for single player which is why they recalled it, god only knows when they will put out a new patch.

Yes Vian it does support it.
But as Snowman said I wouldn't put 1.2 patch yet. I had several problems with my ex 9800pro and 1.2
On the contrary it works just fine with my new GT.

huh, i didn't see any graphic issues with the 1.2 patch on my 9800xt, but it seriously borked the sounds in the game.

Maybe I was the unlucky one. Game ran fine with 1.0 and 1.1vers but when I installed 1.2(with same drivers) I experienced washed out textures and the sound issues you mentioned.

It does support it but you'll need the 1.2 patch and also DirectX 9.0c.

sure there is, that is how the game has to work prior to the 1.2 patch. apparently you just don't notice it.

I can't be, I know what it was like in the demo... SH|T. But in 1.1 I have tried and it looks seemless. If it still does as you say that that is some really, really good transformations.
