Do OEM hard drives come with the factory 3/5 year warranty?

I am sure this has been beaten to death many times but what's the truth behind OEM hard drive warranties? I swear I've never had any problems getting my OEM drives RMAed in the case they've gone bad within the allotted time of warranty.

Different manufacturers have different warranty periods for different HD models.

Say for instance, the 7200.11 1TB OEM hard drive at Newegg. It specifically says in the specification chart that it comes with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. So doesn't that mean it's a standard 5 year warranty? I mean that would be false advertising if it really wasn't, right?

If Newegg says the warranty is five years, just verify the warranty status with Seagate when you get the drive. Seagate has a web form to check the warranty status.

There have been occasional reports of drives coming from Newegg AND other retailers that are large-system-builder OEM drives. These have NO warranty from Seagate. That's why it's best to verify the warranty once you get the serial number. If there's any problem with the reported warranty, Newegg will, doubtless, fix the problem for you. Just double-check when you get the drive.

P.S.
I've read that Seagate is changing its OEM drive warranty terms soon.

Seagate is changing warranty to 3 year starting in January.
