Do not use H&R Block

I filed my taxes last Friday. I was using H&R Block online website. I filed my state and federal. An hour later I was notified by email that something was amiss even though the filing supposedly had no errors. I log on to see what is wrong and is says my filing has been rejected. The reason field was blank. I call into to see what is wrong, she tries to figure out for 45 min. The lady tells me I can print it out and mail it in and it will take 6-8 weeks. I tell her the reason I wanted to e-file was for the speed. She says since it didn't process that I should be fine to e-file with a different company. I load up TurboTax and it files successfully. I call up H&R Block and let them know I filed successfully with TurboTax. I ask if there will be any charges and she says no there will not and if there is to just call and reference the ticket number and they will be removed no problem.

Today I check my credit card and there is an H & R Block charge. I call up and let them know what I was told. She says I'm sorry, but that is incorrect and that I will be charged. I log on and it still says Federal and State are On Hold. So you're charging me for nothing? She says no we're charging you for the state filing. But its on hold? So you haven't done anything for me. Your online filing did not function correctly and a representative told me to file with another company and not worry about any charges. I ask to speak to her manager. He says the same thing. I sent an email to customer service.

Moral of the Story: Do NOT use H & R Block ever.

Cliffs:
-File Taxes at HR Block
-Filing Fails, they don't know why, tell me to efile elsewhere
-I successfully efile at TurboTax, call and tell H&R Block they say no problem, no charges
-H&R Block Charges me
-I call and they tell me that they charged me for the state filing, which is still on hold and won't refund me

What are my options?

Call your credit card company and instruct them to deny payment. Document the event and when HR Blcok comes knocking, fight.

But note, it might be better to pay the fee and then fight, rather then not pay and risk harming your credit.

I sent a complaint to corporate. If they don't resolve it. I will be going to BBB.org.

I called my credit card company and told them to flag it as disputed and that I was in contact with H&R Block corporate.

Why would anyone who can spell their own name use those idiots? TaxCut has been the one and only choice for fifteen years.

I have to do a schedule C, SE, ETC - and it still takes me a whole 45 minutes each year. Anyone who goes to H&R or uses TurboTax - well, I'm sorry for you.

Yes, because clearly your situation applies to everyone
My taxes are far more complicated than anything you can do in 45 minutes. I run them through Turbotax as well as do them by hand to see if I come up with the same thing (or close to it). Then I file them.

Your comment that taxcut is and has been the "one and only choice for 15 years" is stupid and ignorant. Each of the options has pros and cons depending on your needs and your particular situation.

I too have had trouble with H&R block. Most recently involved me needing to file a 1040X (not H&R's fault), and when I calculated the Federal taxes for the year I found their software was off by $50. I will be doing mine my hand in the years to come, my tax dollars are still paying for the IRS...I'm not going to pay to efile also or for software that can't perform accurate math calculations.

My GF had trouble at H&R block as well. They did her taxes and it took a hour to file a it and looks like the person was new. After she left, H&R block called her up and ask her to come in to find out that she had to pay a few bucks extra for the work she did.

Corporate called me and refunded the state filing. There was enough evidence to prove what I told them. I'm happy with the result.

The BBB is a joke.

I have gotten results through them...but they are a joke. You will never hear anything wrong with a business from them.

I had no problem with them this year.

And they don't send me weekly emails even after I unsubscribed like those fucks at Turbo Tax. No joke... like... even in the fall they were asking me to preorder their software and suggesting that I should use them to recheck my taxes from last year... that I filed with them. I mean, why would you suggest something was wrong if I used your services the previous year, unless YOU screwed them up.

I don't know why H&R wouldn't have fixed the filing problem...seems odd.

Also I don't know how H&R could screw up half of what's being presented in most anti-tax pro threads.

Most are painting a simple 1040 filing with W2's and no itemizations. It's practically impossible to screw up.

What I suspect is though is someone finds out they get back $200 and then find out their friend that made less got back $6,000 yet fail to realize they have 2 kids, a personal business and a home they can write off.

They then blame this on H&R.
