Do not cable-tie SATA cables together?

I read this over at ATA-ATAPI.com:

DO NOT tie wrap SATA cables together. DO NOT put sharp bends in SATA cables. DO NOT route SATA cables near PATA cables. Avoid placing SATA devices close to each other such that the SATA cable connectors are close to each other.

I'm guilty of doing every single one of those and I'm sure some of you do a few of those as well (and without any noticeable ill effects).

Does this really result in interference/crosstalk? Do EMI copper-shielded SATA prevent it or is that just hype?

"Avoid placing SATA devices close to each other such that the SATA cable connectors are close to each other."

WTF ever. Have then never heard of a RAID controller? I have 8 SATA connectors all in close proximity, and I haven't had a problem yet. I wouldn't worry about it.

Reading a bit further into that page, you have to wonder if the people behind it have ulterior motives. Methinks the IDE people are a little sad about people moving over to SATA ;).

I'm sure that makes sense in a technical way, the same as you're meant to "Unplug/Eject Hardware" before yanking your USB drive out. However, real world...

In almost all technical things there are "best practices" and "what will work"... One should be aware of "best practices" for troubleshooting after all the obvious things have been tried.

You could get crosstalk in ide cables if you put the two cables together, flat, and taped them together the entire length of the cable, but who is going to do that ?

IDE cables are designed so there is a ground wire in between each signal wire to prevent the crosstalk, so unless you put two cables on top of each other the entire length, I think its nonsense.

Most SATA cables have atleast a thin foil shield so they are pretty much immune from crosstalk.

lmfao, seriously who ever managed that site must of like pulled their cable ties so tight and then moved the ties around a bit so it maybe cut into the cable because that is pretty dumb as not one person to my knowledge has ever had problems with SATA cables being tied together using cable ties.

One a side note....

"Page updated 25 Oct 2005."

Yeah... real updated xD

If you have write caching enabled, I'm quite sure you'd actually want to eject your hardware first :p. Well, that's if you may be doing something (or not realize that something is going on) with the drive at that time.

Oh and that sounds like a bunch of malarkey.

IDE has no shielding at all...

It does if you buy some aftermarket round cables

They should have "Do not Krazy-Glue your SATA cable to your SATA HD because the cheap plastic breaks off"................hehehehe..........I have glued one of my SATA connectors to a HD because the cheap plastic clip broke and the cable wouldnt stay in. I have a love/hate for sata.

That's why I like to use abit sata cables. They've got a retainer clip to keep them attached and it works quite well without resorting to glue.

Also, keep them away from bright light, don?t get them wet, and most importantly don?t feed them after midnight.

Avoid placing SATA devices close to each other such that the SATA cable connectors are close to each other.

Tell the mobo makers this, they stuff those sata ports as close as possible.

They came with my Gigabyte GA-965P-S3. They work well with my WD3200KS and Asus DRW-1814BLT.
