I recently bought a new system, with a Pioneer DVD-106/s DVD-drive.
I chose pioneer because I had some good experiences with their DVD-115 drive (old model).

Well, the 106 is totally WORTHLESS!!!!! Really, MASSIVE reading problems (cd and dvd)!!! That a company dares to launch such a piece of f$cking crap!! It's almost unbelievable!!

This definitely is the last Pioneer product I have ever bought!

Anyway, I'm planning to get rid of this piece of junk ASAP! Any suggestions on a DVD-station that does work flawless (NOT from pioneer please :) )?

How about RMA'ing it and not freaking out. I doubt Pioneer would make a product that just didn't work by design. You probably just got a bad one.

I have been running a Pioneer 106s DVD for several months without a misread on CD or DVD.

If the system is properly setup, there must be a hareware problem, not necessarly with the DVD. By any chance are you running the DVD on an 80 wire IDE cable? IS DMA properly enabled in your OS? There are many possible explanations of problems in a new system, check them out and if you do not find a sollution ask for a RMA from your vendor.

I've always wondered why some people flip out and get their panties all muffed up over these things. OH MY G!!! MY DVD WON'T WORK, THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER. BOYCOTT THEM!!! Want to know something, guy? There's always a bad apple in an orchard. 106s are generally considered very nice drives and many people have bought them. So you got a bad one, okay, fine, don't have a panic attack because of it. I once bought 2 Dell's and they were both bad, so did I start a crusade against Dell? No, actually I still think they are the best pre-built computers out there and recommend them often. No company can produce every single unit they make without error. Take it easy bro, and loosen up a bit. 106's are fine drives.

Stop your b!tching! You got a defective drive, it happens with every company. I've had EVERY slot loading DVD drive from Pioneer and all of them have been great. I wouldn't use anything else for my DVD drive. You got a bad drive and now EVERYTHING that Pioneer makes is crap. Give me a freakin' break.

How about getting the name right first? It's DVD-ROM, I've never heard anyone call it a DVD-station. Although the 106S is quite an overrated drive, it's nowhere near as terrible as you make it out to be. The least you could do other than whining is state what kind of specific problems you're having. "reading problems", I dont know what that's suppose to mean. If you're determined to get rid of it, try a Toshiba.
